Course Structure

COURSE STRUCTURE: 8-week course consisting of extensive training manual, 8 classroom sessions and 2 field trips, with instruction in topics such as waste prevention, recycling processes, alternatives to hazardous household products, composting, and deconstruction and green building. Instructors are local experts from the business, government, and non-profit sectors of the solid waste and recycling industry.

PARTICIPANT RESPONSIBILITIES: Participants agree to attend ALL class evenings and field trips. Graduates of the program agree to volunteer at least 30 hours of “payback” in their community after completing this course. To do this, Master Recyclers volunteer to staff information booths at events and fairs, provide presentations to community groups, give hands-on help to schools and businesses, and work on special projects.

LOCATION: Mosier Creek Terrace, 501 E 2nd Avenue, Mosier (drive through downtown, cross Mosier Creek on bridge, go past new condos, take right on Kingdom St, take right on 2nd Avenue, park on street and walk to building)

COST: The classes are offered free of charge to residents of Wasco, Sherman and Hood River counties who agree to “pay back” what they have learned with a minimum of 30 hours volunteer service in their community. Please register to become a Master Recycler ONLY if you are able to attend every class, both field trips, and complete the volunteer 30 hour “payback”.
