What can I recycle in my blue bin?
Note: Curbside service may vary, depending on whether you are a business or household and where you are located (City, incorporated rural center, un-incorporated area). Call The Dalles Disposal Service for details: 541-298-1598.

(A) Put these items together in your blue bin:



(B) Set out these items separately:

  • Newspapers, magazines, catalogs, junk mail, phone books
  • Office paper, colored paper, note pads, letters, paper bags
  • Shredded paper in a paper bag (less mess)
  • Boxes, such as tissue, shoe, cookie, cereal and cracker style boxes (liner removed)
  • Cardboard tubes
  • Plastic bottles with a neck (rinse) beverages, milk jugs, shampoo, detergent, cleansers. Now, you can leave the cap on!
  • Plastic tubs 6 oz. to 5 gallons in size (cleaned) dairy products, cat litter, detergent. Leave the lid on.
  • Plant containers 4 inches and larger (cleaned)
  • Aluminum cans and tin cans (rinsed)
  • Clean aluminum foil
  • Empty aerosol cans (remove plastic caps)
  • Glass bottles and jars (rinse, put metal lids in blue recycle bin). Put glass bottles and jars in a separate bucket or container.
  • Corrugated cardboard boxes (flattened). Put these next to or underneath your blue bins.
  • Motor oil (put in an opaque 1 gallon milk jug with a lid and place next to your curbside garbage and recycling)
Not accepted in curbside recycling:
  • Clear “clamshell” containers


  • Gabletop cartons, such that milk and juice come in


  • Aseptic shelf-stable cartons 

Where can I recycle in Wasco County?

Curbside Recycling is available to all customers of The Dalles Disposal. Anyone can self-haul their recycling to one of the listed depots free of charge.

Curbside Recycling is currently available to garbage customers within City of The Dalles, and in the City of Mosier, as well as some rural routes in Mosier. Self-haul Recycling Depot locations:

Hours: Mon-Sat 9am-5pm

Sorted recyclables only (no co-mingled)

Maupin City Park
Hours: 24 hours a day/7 days a week
3 categories: commingled (includes cardboard), colored glass, clear glass

Dufur: Lions City Park Depot
Hours: Saturdays, 10-noon

Mel’s Sanitary Service, Inc. Transfer Station
Hours: Mon-Fri 8 am-2pm
4 categories, separated only: cardboard, co-mingled, colored glass, clear glass

How do I get a recycling bin?

If you are a residential or business recycling customer of The Dalles Disposal, you can get a bin (residence) or cart (business) from:

South Wasco County:
You can purchase a plastic bin or tote for any one of several local stores to transport your recyclables to the depot or transfer station.
