Before you go out and buy something completely new, take an inventory of what you have already, and see what can be reused.

Choose products that come in refillable containers.

Can you use a container for storage, or to hold a gift?

Reuse your packaging and shredded paper when you are packing items away or shipping goods or gifts. No need to buy completely new bubble wrap.

Use it up. Wear it out. Make it do. Do without.

Wring every last bit of usefulness out of what you own.

Maintain and repair what you already own, rather than replacing a worn or broken item with something new.

Borrow, rent, or share items that you use infrequently.

Shop at secondhand and thrift stores. Click here to find a current listing of stores in your area. Don’t see one listed? Send us an email and we’ll add it to our list! Thanks for sharing.

Shop the local classifieds in the papers, or online through Gorge.net

Rather than throwing items away that still have use, take them to Salvation Army, St. Vincent DePaul, or another second hand store in your community.
